If your passion combines travel, walking and a love of trains, then Burrs Country Park near Bury is heaven. We carefully selected a plot with a great view of the East Lancs Railway.
Saturday morning and the excitement commenced. We could see the steam first and then the early morning train to Rawtenstall. The trains are just frequent enough to maintain an element of excitement throughout the day with the alternate steam and diesel engines upfront.
And then time to explore the area. Burrs country park is on the edge of Bury with many hidden treasures from Bury’s industrial past awaiting discovery.
Gentle walks to see the old water wheel pit and remnants of the old mills.
Also Burrs is along the Irwell Sculpture Park Trail.
There is so much gentle walking around the area. As long as you have the right clothes the northern English rain should not pose a problem.
We stayed at the caravan and motorhome club site. Facilities as to be expected, friendly welcome, but so relaxing. Within easy reach of the Greater Manchester conurbation not wonder it is always booked up at the weekend.
Until Dora’s next outing!
