Back in Spain we ventured upon a new and exciting route through the arid landscape of Castile and León.
Fist stop León. We have not overnighted in an Aire since Honfleur but with a lack of campsites int eh vicinity we chose a popular Aire within 20 minutes walk of León.
León is typical of most European cities – a modern periphery and an old centre.
I knowing little about León walked towards the Cathedral – the heart of old León.

Moving out from the square the narrow streets lead to Casa Botines designed by Gaudi.

And then back to modern León

And the MUSAC – museum of contemporary art.
Only 3 Euros to enter but apart from the excellent toilets the exhibitions were rather disappointing.

I had high hopes but unfortunately dashed.
At least Kevin was very happy with my discovery of the local pizza establishment

And the following morning onwards to Castrojeriz. A small town on the Camino route.

And a Knight Templar castle looming above.

Views from the walk up towards the castle were stunningly different from any part of Spain I have previously explored.

And so travelled north to Bilbao.
Avoiding toll roads resulted in passing through some amazing scenery. At one point Kevin pulled ver for me to take some panoramic photos.

Kevin apparently enjoyed the drive.
And so onto Bilbao and our bucket list item to visit the Guggenheim.

We stayed at an Aire on the outskirts of Bilbao. Amazing views of the city and highly efficient and heap public transport system.

However the next morning the mist and rain had arrived so we decided to follow the sun into France.

We had intended to stay near Biarritz, but after Jane passing a good hour in the LeClerc looking for soup, Kevin was refreshed and dove further north and into the sunshine.
Unfortunately shopping in a strange supermarket in a different culture takes much longer than the co-op in New Mills.
Aisles of balsamic vinegar; endless cartons of vegetable soup, but no tins of chicken. The wine fair at the entrance…
Eventually fully restocked Dora pulled away and arrived at
Moliets

An amazing surfing beach. Bu also a heated pool
